ArtVelocity and Techno-Information

Velocity and Techno-Information

April 1–30, 2025

In an era driven by the rapid exchange of information and technological advancements, how do artists navigate the concept of velocity—speed, acceleration, and immediacy? This theme invites artists to reflect on the influence of digital culture, technological evolution, and the overwhelming pace of contemporary life on art and society.

From the ephemeral nature of data to the physical and emotional impact of hyperconnectivity, Velocity: Techno-Information encourages participants to investigate, reinterpret, and visualize the layered effects of speed and technology on the human experience.

Application Deadline: February 15, 2025
Notification of Acceptance: February 20, 2025

About the Theme

In a world where technology evolves at an unprecedented pace and information travels instantaneously, velocity defines our time. This residency explores the intersections of speed, technology, and human experience. It invites artists to examine the effects of digital acceleration, hyperconnectivity, and the flow of information on contemporary life, culture, and art-making processes.

Key Concepts to Explore

  1. Speed and Perception
    • How does the constant acceleration of digital tools influence our perception of time and space?
    • Can art slow down or challenge this pace?
  2. Information Overload
    • How do we process the overwhelming flow of data in daily life?
    • How can art critique or reinterpret the nature of fragmented, instant information?
  3. Human and Machine Interaction
    • Explore the role of artificial intelligence, algorithms, and automation in shaping human experiences.
    • How do these technologies redefine creativity and authorship?
  4. Connectivity and Isolation
    • While technology connects us globally, does it create emotional or social disconnection?
    • Can art serve as a bridge to rekindle authentic human connections?
  5. Ephemerality and Permanence
    • Investigate the fleeting nature of digital information versus the lasting impact of physical art forms.

Artistic Mediums and Approaches

We encourage submissions from artists across disciplines, including but not limited to:

  • Painting, sculpture, and installation art.
  • Digital and new media art, including AR/VR, coding, and AI-based projects.
  • Video art, performance, and sound design.
  • Conceptual and research-driven practices.

Whether your work critiques, celebrates, or redefines the role of technology, this residency offers a platform to innovate and create dialogue.

Questions to Reflect On

  • How does velocity affect your artistic process and practice?
  • Can your work bridge the gap between fast-paced technological realities and human experiences?
  • What role does the artist play in decoding or interpreting the rapid changes of our era?
